1. Studentship for Non-EU nationals - Financial History of the BRICs"
Queen’s University Centre for Economic History is offering a full scholarship (£13,863 stipend per annum plus fees) commencing in September 2014 to a student from outside the European Union who wishes to work on any aspect of the financial history of a BRIC economy. The rise of the BRIC economies (Brazil, Russia, India and China) has challenged the hegemonic economic power of the G7 economies and appears to be reversing the ‘Great Divergence’ between the West and the East. The rise of the BRICs has rekindled the interest of economists and economic historians in why these economies were once laggards in economic terms and how they managed to suddenly reverse their economic fortunes. To date, there has been little in the way of scholarsh! ip looking at the role of the financial system in the two-century retardation and late-twentieth century renaissance of the BRIC economies. In fact, we know comparatively little about the development of financial systems of the BRICs over the past two centuries.
2. Studentship for EU Nationals – Any Area of Economic History
Queen’s University Centre for Economic History is offering a full scholarship (£13,863 stipend per annum plus fees) commencing in September 2014 to students from the European Union who have been resident in the UK for at least three years. Applications in any area of economic history are welcome.
We have a preference for individuals who have undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Economics, Economic History, Finance or cognate disciplines for both studentships. Students who do not have such a background, but have a background in History, will also be considered, but they will have to take courses in economics, statistics and methodology. Applicants will be expected to develop a research proposal as part of their application. Teaching opportunities in economic and financial history are available to all our PhD students, and any teaching income is additional to the studentship. Interested applicants should, in the first instance, contact Professor John Turner (j.turner@qub.ac.uk) and Dr. Chris Colvin (chris.colvin@qub.ac.uk).
Further details and the application process are available at www.quceh.org.uk.
The closing date for full applications is 28th February 2014.
